Volcanic stone, known in jewellery simply as "lava", is solidified volcanic rock – most often basalt. When molten lava erupts and cools quickly, the gases in it leave countless tiny pores. The result is the light, matte black stone with its characteristic rough surface.
The stone that "breathes"
The pores make lava not only beautiful but practical. Lava beads absorb essential oils and hold their scent for a long time. One or two drops of your favourite oil on the bracelet are enough – and it will smell lovely all day. That is why lava bracelets are also known as "aroma bracelets".
Symbolism
Because it comes from the very heart of the Earth, lava is traditionally a symbol of strength, courage and new beginnings – of the fire that destroys but also creates new land. It is considered a strongly "grounding" stone that helps us stay calm and balanced on stressful days. In Eastern tradition the black colour of lava is linked with Yin energy – soothing and contemplative.
In jewellery
Black matte lava beads look wonderful in men's and women's bracelets – on their own or combined with tiger's eye, onyx, agate, hematite and steel elements. Lava is light, so even chunkier bracelets are comfortable to wear.
Care
Lava is more fragile than dense stones – protect it from knocks and do not rub it with rough objects. If the bracelet is on elastic, do not overstretch it when putting it on.
