It recalls childhood, a hug and the feeling that someone is watching over us.<\/p>\n<h2>How the teddy bear was born<\/h2>\n<p>The name \u201cTeddy\u201d comes from the American president Theodore Roosevelt. In 1902 he refused to shoot a tied-up bear during a hunt, and the story spread through the newspapers. Soon after, the first stuffed bear named after him appeared. At almost the same time Germany began making its own plush bears, and so it became the favourite toy of the whole world.<\/p>\n<h2>Symbolism<\/h2>\n<p>In many cultures the bear is a sign of strength and protection, and the little teddy bear of tenderness. The teddy bear is believed to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>bring warmth, comfort and calm;<\/li>\n<li>protect the one who wears it;<\/li>\n<li>recall the carefree days of childhood;<\/li>\n<li>say \u201cI\u2019m thinking of you\u201d without words.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>The teddy bear in jewellery<\/h2>\n<p>The teddy bear looks lovely as a pendant on a necklace, in earrings and in brooches \u2013 with pearls, crystals or in a colourful, playful version.
