With its four transparent wings shimmering in the sun, it is a symbol of lightness, light and freedom.<\/p>\n<h2>A child of water and wind<\/h2>\n<p>The dragonfly begins its life under water and only after years comes to the surface, opens its wings and flies away. That is why in many cultures it is a symbol of change, growth and new beginnings \u2013 of the courage to leave the old behind and take flight.<\/p>\n<h2>In different cultures<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>In Japan the dragonfly is a symbol of courage, strength and victory \u2013 samurai placed it on their helmets and weapons.<\/li>\n<li>In China it brings harmony and lightness.<\/li>\n<li>In European folk tales forest fairies flew on the backs of dragonflies.<\/li>\n<li>The dragonfly also embodies family love and hope.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Living in the moment<\/h2>\n<p>As an adult insect the dragonfly lives only a short time \u2013 so it also symbolises the ability to enjoy the present moment.<\/p>\n<h2>The dragonfly in jewellery<\/h2>\n<p>Dragonfly jewellery is light, airy and cheerful \u2013 earrings, pendants, brooches and bracelets, often with coloured crystals and enamel that echo the shimmering colours of its wings.
