Their large watchful eyes, their ability to see in the dark and their silent flight have inspired people for thousands of years.<\/p>\n<h2>The bird of Athena<\/h2>\n<p>In Ancient Greece the owl was the sacred bird of Athena \u2013 the goddess of wisdom, knowledge and justice. It also appeared on the Athenian silver coins that circulated throughout the ancient world. Since then the owl has been a symbol of learning \u2013 and we still see it in the emblems of universities and libraries today.<\/p>\n<h2>Symbolism<\/h2>\n<p>Traditionally the owl is a symbol of:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>wisdom and knowledge;<\/li>\n<li>long life;<\/li>\n<li>the ability to see the truth where others see darkness;<\/li>\n<li>prosperity and wealth \u2013 in some Eastern traditions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The owl is believed to help with study and mental work and to support productivity and personal growth. That is why an owl piece is a wonderful gift for pupils, students, teachers and anyone who works with their mind.<\/p>\n<h2>The owl in jewellery<\/h2>\n<p>Owl jewellery is among the best-loved symbolic jewellery. It can be playful and charming \u2013 with big eyes of coloured crystals \u2013 or refined and elegant \u2013 in silver or gold tones, set with cubic zirconia.
